Test results
Results are reviewed by a clinician within two working days of arriving at the practice.
We only contact you about a result if something needs doing. If you have heard nothing a week after the test, call reception — do not assume all is well.
How to get a result
Phone reception after 14:00, when the lines are quieter, or use the NHS App where results are published. Reception can give results that a clinician has already reviewed and marked as fit to disclose.
Reception cannot interpret a result. If you need it explained, book a telephone appointment.
How long results take
| Test | Result available |
|---|---|
| Blood tests | 2 to 5 working days |
| Urine and swab cultures | 3 to 5 working days |
| X-ray and scan reports | 7 to 10 working days |
| Cervical screening | Up to 4 weeks, by letter |
Abnormal results
A clinician reviews every result and decides the action: routine call, urgent appointment, or a referral. If a result needs urgent action you will be phoned, including at the weekend by the out-of-hours service where necessary.
